At least 16 people were killed and 28 others injured after a bus overturned in Egypt’s eastern Sinai Peninsula on Wednesday (Sep 2), the country’s health ministry confirmed.
The accident occurred on the road connecting Dahab and Nuweiba, two popular tourist towns along South Sinai’s eastern coast. At least 20 ambulances were dispatched to the crash site to assist the injured and transport casualties to medical facilities.
Among the dead were 10 Jordanian nationals, according to state television in Jordan. Jordan’s official Al-Mamlaka channel reported that the passenger bus, which overturned on the Dahab-Nuweiba road in Egypt’s South Sinai governorate, was carrying 43 people in total 22 of them Jordanian citizens.
Jordanian Foreign Ministry Confirms Casualties, Coordinates Response
Ambassador Fouad Majali, spokesperson for Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said preliminary information received by the Jordanian Embassy in Cairo confirmed that an Egyptian passenger bus carrying both Jordanian and Egyptian nationals was involved in the crash, resulting in several deaths and injuries.

Majali said early reports confirmed that a number of Jordanian nationals were among the casualties. He added that the ministry’s Operations and Consular Affairs Directorate, along with the Jordanian Embassy in Cairo, is coordinating closely with Egyptian authorities to follow up on the incident and monitor the condition of the Jordanian nationals involved.
A team from the Jordanian Embassy in Cairo has been dispatched to Nuweiba to check on the injured and to facilitate the repatriation of the bodies of the Jordanian victims to the Kingdom.
