During a nighttime Russian assault on a warehouse outside Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, in the Bucha neighborhood, according to officials.
“Unfortunately, there are already 37 dead in the Bucha district. Tymur Tkachenko, the governor of the Kyiv region, stated on Telegram on Saturday that “rescuers and all relevant services are continuing their operations at the scene of the tragedy.” According to Tkachenko, one of the deceased was Taras Didych, the mayor of the village of Dmytrivska.
Authorities stated on Saturday that a Russian drone targeted a munitions storage warehouse in the town of Myla, close to Kyiv’s western outskirts, causing massive explosions. According to Tymur Tkachenko, the commander of the regional military administration in the area, the strike damaged at least 50 residential buildings and started a massive fire that spread to houses and a restaurant.
Ukrainian authorities stated they are starting an inquiry into criminal negligence since the warehouse seemed to have been storing “explosive objects.” The prosecutor’s office stated that it will look into “the legality of the storage of explosive objects and materials on the enterprise’s grounds” and whether the unnamed corporation in question had the “necessary permits and approvals.”
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, said in a statement that a warehouse in the town of Myla had been hit, “followed by a detonation.” He acknowledged that criminal charges would be taken, but he did not provide any information regarding the location. Zelenskyy stated, “There are regulations in place—ammunition cannot be stored near homes or other residential areas.”
