In a written statement released six months after the Middle East conflict began, Iran’s supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei urged Muslim nations in the area to band together against Israel and the United States on Sunday. Since taking office shortly after his father Ali Khamenei was slain on February 28 at the beginning of the conflict, Khamenei has not been seen in public and no audio or video of him has been made public by the authorities.
As Shia Muslims celebrated the Prophet Mohammed’s birthday on Sunday, he declared, “Unity of words, friendship, and cooperation on the path of goodness is the solution to the problems of the Islamic nations.”
“Anyone, in any position, who does anything that leads to division among Muslims and creates conflict in the Muslim community, knowingly or unknowingly, intentionally or unintentionally, has served the purpose of the enemies of Islam,” he said, according to his official website. Referring to the US and Israel, the supreme leader urged the leaders of the surrounding nations to “recognise your real enemy, understand its plan, and confront it.”
Iran attacked US military installations throughout the Middle East during the conflict, including those in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain. Since then, relations with those countries have deteriorated.
Iranian officials and citizens were urged to set aside their differences and unite against Israel and the United States by Khamenei, who has the final say on important state issues.
He reiterated what he had said in a previous statement on Friday: “I firmly declare that doing anything detrimental to social cohesion is prohibited.” “Again, this servant’s advice to the Iranian people is to not allow any differences to arise among themselves in any way,” he said.
In addition, he demanded on Friday that Iran’s economy be gradually de-dollarized and that economic output be increased to encourage growth in the wake of years of painful sanctions that have negatively impacted livelihoods and months of a US naval blockade.
