The Biggest Crisis Today Is A Crisis Of Trust : PM Modi’s Strong Message To G7 Leaders

Paris : At a time when the world is witnessing wars, trade tensions and growing geopolitical uncertainity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the greatest challenge facing humanity is not shortage of resources but a shortage of trust among nations.

Addressing the G7 outreach session in Canada , Modi told world leaders that despite rapid advancements in technology and economic progress, the erosion of trust has become a major obstacle to solving global problems.

“The world is not facing a shortage of resources , technology or capabilities. What the world is facing today is a crisis of trust,” Modi said, calling for greater cooperation and mutual confidence among countries.

His remarks come at a critical moment. From the prolonged Russia-Ukraine war to the conflict in West Asia and disruptions in global trade routes, the international community has struggled to find common ground on several pressing issues. Many developing nationshave also been grappling with inflation, food insecurity and supply chain disruptions triggered by these conflicts.

Against this backdrop, Modi urged countries to move beyond self interest and work together in a spirit of partnership. He stressed that trust and cooperation are essential if the world is to effectively tackle challenges ranging from security threats to climate change and economic instability.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the concerns of the Global South, saying that developing countries often end up paying the highest price for crises they did not create. Rising energy prices, food shortages and economic uncertainty have hit poorer nations particularly hard over the past few years.

Drawing from India’s age old philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam “the world is one family” Modi said global progress can only be achieved when nations treat each other as equal partners and respect each other’s interests.

Maritime security also featured prominently in his address. Referring to growing concerns over attacks and instability affecting key shipping routes, Modi said secure sea lanes are crucial for the global economy. He stressed that sailors and commercial vessels should be able to operate without fear and that uninterrupted trade is vital for global prosperity.

On the issue of emerging technologies, the Prime Minister called for responsible and inclusive development of artificial intelligence. While acknowledging the transformative potential of AI, he warned that misuse of technology, including misinformation and deepfakes, poses new challenges that require collective action.

India’s presence at the G7 Outreach Session once again reflected its growing stature on the global stage. Although not a member of the G7, India has become an important voice in discussions on global governance, economic growth, climate action and the concerns of developing nations.

During the summit, Modi also held a series of bilateral meetings with world leaders, discussing cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, energy security, innovation and counter terrorism.

As global divisions deepen and international conflicts continue to test diplomatic relations, Modi’s message struck a chord with a concern shared by many countries that without trust, even the world’s greatest resources and capabilities may not be enough to overcome the challenges ahead.

For India, the message was also a reflection of its broader diplomatic approach promoting dialogue over division and cooperation over confrontation in an increasingly uncertain world.
