PM Modi Touches Down In Auckland, First Indian PM To Visit New Zealand In 40 Years

On the last phase of his three-nation tour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in New Zealand on Friday. He will speak to the Indian diaspora and meet with his colleague, Christopher Luxon.

Luxon greeted PM Modi when he arrived at the airport.

The prime minister had stated in his farewell speech in New Delhi that his visit will “meaningfully build” upon the robust momentum in India-New Zealand relations following Luxon’s March 2025 visit to India.

According to PM Modi, India’s Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision, and perspective for a free and open Indo-Pacific would all be strengthened by his trip to Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand.

He will discuss measures to improve economic, trade, and commercial relations with Luxon during his two-day visit to New Zealand.

Additionally, he will speak to the island nation’s Indian diaspora.

Following a three-day trip to Australia, where he met with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for summit discussions, PM Modi landed in New Zealand. Both leaders reaffirmed the importance of their bilateral alliance in maintaining peace in the Indo-Pacific.

The two presidents’ emphasis on greatly strengthening defense relations, particularly in the marine sector, was one of the key highlights of their summit discussions. After more than two years of discussions, a civil nuclear energy deal was reached to enable the commercial supply of uranium from Australia to India to power New Delhi’s nuclear power plants.

Prior to that, PM Modi visited Indonesia and signed 14 agreements to strengthen cooperation in vital minerals, marine security, and other important areas.
