‘Don’t Make Kaafirs Your Friends’: Pakistan DG ISPR’s Comments On Ind-Afg Relationship Ignites Row

In response to recent remarks made by an Afghan Taliban minister regarding India-Afghanistan ties, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) for the Pakistan Army, caused controversy with his remarks during an official press conference in Rawalpindi.
During a visit to India, the Afghan minister reportedly said that Afghanistan and India “share the same DNA” and discussed the two nations’ shared history and culture. In response, Chaudhry cited a text in the Quran that said Muslims shouldn’t become friends with kafirs.
In light of the Afghan minister’s comments, he cited the Quran to support his claim that people who claim such affinities with India and Hindus raise concerns about their commitment to Islamic values. Chaudhry made a distinction between the Afghan people and the Taliban government, claiming that the remarks showed ideological affinities with India, which Pakistan has accused of supporting terrorism against it on multiple occasions. India has always denied those accusations.
The comments were made during a broader briefing on counterterrorism, Balochistan, Pakistan-Afghanistan relations, and Pakistan’s claims that India is involved in militant operations. But as a stand-alone video, the Quranic allusion and the debate surrounding the “DNA” comments received a lot of attention on social media.
“We appreciate them saying that. Furthermore, I am referring to the Afghan Taliban government, not the Afghan people. When determining whether DNA is truly same, we must exercise extreme caution. The DNA differs from that of the average Afghan. This Taliban administration is crushing the average Afghan citizen. “Their DNA differs from theirs,” he stated. Does this administration exhibit any behavior that is consistent with Islamic principles? What does Islam have to do with what they do to women and children, issuing fatwas while sitting comfortably, and saying that any Muslim’s blood is acceptable? It is completely unrelated to Islam, according to Chaudhry.
“Allah Almighty has made it very plain that you should not consider the unbelievers (kafirs) to be your friends or guardians. You are no longer a member of the Muslim community if you do this. Therefore, DNA is not the only factor here. We must comprehend the true meaning of this DNA and the nature of their interaction. Indeed, they have something in common. However, because he thought they were somehow very close, the Maulvi Sahib felt upset and ended up talking more than he should have. No—in that regard, their DNA is what unites them,” he remarked.
The Taliban government and the Indian BJP or RSS actually have a master-slave relationship. They serve the repressive Indian system, which is their master. What does the RSS do? What is this supposedly Hindu Rashtra up to? It is doing injustice and oppressing Muslims and Kashmiris. What are they doing, too? Even more than themselves, they are advancing that goal. What sort of Islam is this? Chaudhry stated, “They are doing an even bigger disservice.”
Top intelligence sources claim that the remarks are part of a larger effort to divert attention from Pakistan’s internal security issues, such as growing militant violence in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as worries about the security of China-backed CPEC projects.
