New Delhi — A newly surfaced video from a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) commander has laid bare alleged links between Pakistan’s military leadership and terrorist networks, claiming that Army Chief General Asim Munir directed senior officers to pay respects at the funerals of militants killed during India’s Operation Sindoor.
In the footage circulating widely on social media, Masood Ilyas Kashmiri, a prominent JeM figure, asserts that the Pakistan Army’s General Headquarters (GHQ) mandated a formal military tribute to the deceased fighters. According to Kashmiri, the directive required corps commanders to join the funeral processions in uniform and provide an honor guard, framing the slain individuals as “martyrs” deserving of a final salute.
The clip, which appears to capture Kashmiri addressing a gathering, underscores the purported institutional support for such ceremonies. A separate segment from what seems to be the same event features Kashmiri praising JeM founder Masood Azhar’s role in attacks on Indian targets. Speaking in Urdu, he recounts Azhar’s release from Delhi’s Tihar Jail and credits the Balakot region in Pakistan for bolstering Azhar’s efforts against sites in Delhi and Mumbai. “This soil remains indebted to him,” Kashmiri declares, highlighting Azhar’s enduring influence.
Hindustan Times could not independently confirm the videos’ authenticity. Yet the revelations echo a prior online clip where Kashmiri described the devastating impact of Operation Sindoor on Azhar’s family in Bahawalpur. “After giving everything for this country’s borders—fighting in Delhi, Kabul, and Kandahar—Maulana Masood Azhar’s family was shattered by Indian forces on May 7,” he stated.
Operation Sindoor marked India’s forceful response to the April 22 terrorist assault in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives, predominantly tourists. In a synchronized operation involving the Army, Navy, and Air Force, Indian forces targeted nine militant strongholds across locations like Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muridke. The raids dismantled key infrastructures of JeM, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen, eliminating 10 relatives of Masood Azhar and four of his aides.
Indian Army spokesperson Colonel Sofiya Qureshi emphasized the strikes’ precision, noting no civilian casualties on India’s end. Pakistan reported 26 fatalities and 46 injuries but did not confirm the sites as terrorist bases.
