New York : After a long-winding speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), French President Emmanuel Macron was returning to the embassy to retire for the day. It left Macron stranded on the streets of New York as all roads were blocked for Trump’s passage. Flustered, Macron then stepped out of his car and approached the police to enquire about the roadblock.
Macron was seen calling the US President in a light-hearted manner while standing on the street. Standing near a barricade, with the New York crowd watching, Macron humorously asked Trump to clear the way. However, by then, Trump’s convoy had passed, and the road was opened only to pedestrians. The French President didn’t get back in his car and continued his journey on foot even as he continued to speak to Trump on the phone.

For the New Yorkers, it was a rare spectacle – watching the French President on the streets without the hullabaloo and security detail that a president usually carries. Earlier in the day, Macron announced at the UNGA that France had formally recognised Palestine as a state, urging the revival of the idea of a two-state solution to the decades of conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians.
