Ontario: A 45-year-old Indian-origin YouTuber, Nancy Grewal, was fatally stabbed in LaSalle, Ontario, prompting Canadian authorities to launch a homicide investigation, according to a report by NDTV.
Police said the incident occurred on the evening of March 3 in a residential neighbourhood in LaSalle, a town located near Windsor, Ontario. Officers from the LaSalle Police Service responded to a call reporting a stabbing shortly before 9:30 pm local time. Emergency responders, including paramedics, were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, officials discovered Grewal with multiple stab wounds. She was quickly transported to a nearby hospital by Essex-Windsor Emergency Medical Services. Despite efforts to save her, she later succumbed to her injuries, police confirmed, as reported by NDTV.
Following the incident, investigators secured the area and began collecting evidence. Authorities cordoned off two homes located between Canada Street and Bishop Street while forensic teams examined the surroundings. Police reportedly placed several evidence markers along a concrete walkway and near the entrance of one of the residences as part of the ongoing investigation.
In a statement shared on social media, the LaSalle Police Service confirmed Grewal’s identity and expressed condolences to her family and loved ones. Officials added that, based on preliminary findings, investigators believe the case to be an isolated incident and that there is no immediate threat to public safety.
Police have asked anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity or possesses surveillance footage from the surrounding neighbourhood to contact authorities. Investigators hope such information could assist them in determining the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack.
According to the report, Grewal was known for posting videos and commentary on social and political developments related to Punjab and issues concerning the Sikh community, including discussions around the Khalistan movement.
