In an election move that Indian voters will find familiar, on Wednesday, September 10, 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump made an incredible pledge to give $5,000 to every adult American if Republicans win control of Congress in November. He also urged his followers to “pretend” he was running for office.
“You win with us and receive $5,000 if the Republicans win. As the Republican Party struggles in polls against the Democrats, he addressed the Republican midterm conference in Dallas, “It will be called the Trump dividend.”
The U.S. President stated that “our country is making so much money,” but he did not specify where the funding would come from. The estimated bill is expected to exceed $1 trillion.
“I’m asking you to pretend that I’m on the ballot,” Trump added, intensifying his wager that he can assist Republicans in defying opinion polls and holding onto both chambers of Congress on November 3. He declared to the audience, “I’m on the ballot, I’m on the ballot, just one more time.”
The majority of opinion polls indicate that Mr. Trump’s approval ratings are in the low 30s as voters grow more irate over his war against Iran and rising costs.
Although no formal party business is scheduled and no candidates are being nominated, the event marks the first Republican national convention staged especially for a midterm election.
Rather, the organizers have created what is essentially a two-night broadcast rally that promotes Republican candidates and Mr. Trump’s record.
With more than 50 lecturers or presentations planned each night, more than 100 House members and candidates were anticipated to participate.
