Surrey, Canada – Kap’s Cafe, owned by renowned Indian comedian and actor Kapil Sharma, was struck by gunfire for the second time in less than a month on Thursday, August 7, 2025, sparking alarm among local residents and fans. Located at the intersection of 85 Avenue and Scott Road in Surrey, British Columbia, the cafe was targeted in the early morning hours, according to Vancouver City News. The Surrey Police Service (SPS) responded to the incident around 4:40 a.m., finding evidence of multiple gunshots, including shattered windows and bullet holes. No injuries were reported, though staff were present inside the premises during the attack.
Local residents were awakened by the sound of gunfire. Bob Singh, a nearby resident, told City News’ 1130 NewsRadio, “I saw it from my patio. I heard shots fired, like five or six shots, and then the cops came.” Another neighbor, Michelle Gaucher, recounted hearing eight gunshots, emphasizing they were distinct from fireworks, followed by the sound of sirens. The SPS has not yet determined the motive for the shooting and is seeking public assistance as the investigation continues.
A social media post, allegedly from gangster Goldy Dhillon, claimed responsibility for the attack on behalf of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The unverified post stated, “Jai Shri Ram… today’s firing at Kapil Sharma’s Kap’s Cafe in Surrey is claimed by Goldy Dhillon and the Lawrence Bishnoi gang… the next action will soon take place in Mumbai.” This claim has caused concern among fans but lacks independent verification. Kapil Sharma and his team have not issued a statement following the incident.
This marks the second attack on Kap’s Cafe since its opening in early July. On July 10, 2025, the cafe was targeted in a similar shooting, with nine shots fired, leading to a 10-day closure. After reopening, the cafe’s team posted on Instagram, expressing their commitment to maintaining a space of “warmth and community” despite the violence. The earlier attack was claimed by Harjit Singh Laddi, linked to the banned Babbar Khalsa International, who cited offensive remarks made on Sharma’s show as the motive.
Kapil Sharma, a household name in India for his shows Comedy Nights with Kapil and The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix, owns the cafe with his wife, Ginni Chatrath. The couple frequently shares updates about the venture, thanking the British Columbia community for their support. The repeated attacks have raised significant concerns among fans and locals alike.
