Why Did Jos Buttler Mention Vaibhav Suryavanshi After Breaking Kieron Pollard’s T20 World Record?

London: England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler broke West Indies star Kieron Pollard’s world record to become the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket history. After achieving the milestone, Buttler made a special mention of 15-year-old teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi during an interview.

Buttler Smashes Unbeaten 51 with Six Sixes

On Wednesday, Buttler played a blistering unbeaten knock of 51 off just 20 balls, smashing six sixes and two fours for Manchester Super Giants against Welsh Fire in The Hundred, the 100-ball tournament in England. His innings, along with Tim Seifert’s 62, helped Manchester chase down the target of 156 in just 69 balls, losing only one wicket.

The World Record Buttler Broke

With his unbeaten 51, Buttler’s career tally in T20 cricket rose to 14,833 runs, surpassing Kieron Pollard’s world-record tally of 14,803 runs. West Indies legend Chris Gayle is third on the all-time list with 14,562 runs.

What Did Buttler Say About Vaibhav Suryavanshi?

Speaking on Thursday, Buttler praised Rajasthan Royals youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who topped the batting charts in the recent IPL with 776 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of 237.00 and also played a key role in India’s 3-0 T20I series sweep over Zimbabwe last month.

“I can see Vaibhav Suryavanshi having the ability to break my world record in the future. I am proud to be the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket, but one day someone will surpass this record, and that player could well be Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

“He has played outstanding T20 cricket over the past year and has made a tremendous impact in this format. Recently, he also became the youngest player to make his international debut at the age of 15.”
