The health of Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has come under renewed scrutiny after Israeli media reported that he is in grave condition and that the “world could hear his death news soon.” Mojtaba has been out of the spotlight since assuming the position after his father was killed in US-Israeli attacks in late February.
Iran has long disputed reports raising concerns about his health, but recent allegations from Israel indicated that he is presently in grave condition and has been admitted to the hospital. The Israeli media source Channel 14 reported that Khamenei’s health was “extremely critical.” Iranian sources were referenced by the news station.
The report also mentioned assertions made by IranWire, which identified people close to the administration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and made essentially the same statements. According to two sources cited by the publication, Mojtaba Khamenei has not met any cabinet members since the US attacked the Supreme Leader’s compound on February 28, killing his father and other family members.
According to the source, he could “die at any moment” and the Iranian leadership is currently aware of his condition. According to a source close to Pezeshkian’s cabinet, he was in poor physical condition. The insider stated, “We wouldn’t be shocked if we learned of his martyrdom soon.”
Khamenei’s injuries from the February strike were not significant, according to Iranian officials, who have repeatedly denied any rumors that he is paralyzed. In fact, Iranian President Pezeshkian recently admitted that it was currently “very difficult” to communicate with the Supreme Leader.
He did, however, maintain that Khamenei continued to be a source of support for the government. In an interview with Iranian official media, Pezeshkian stated, “It is very difficult to communicate with him at the moment, but in any case, his presence is a very great source of strength for us so that we can continue.”
He continued by defending the Iranian supreme leader, stating that they had had fruitful discussions and that he possessed “very sound logic.” However, both local and foreign onlookers have become more speculative due to Khamenei’s persistent disappearance from public view.
Iranian officials have insisted that he is still in charge of the nation’s affairs, despite earlier reports claiming that he sustained severe injuries during the strikes. He may have suffered serious or disfiguring injuries during the strikes, according to Western and opposition intelligence sources. These rumors are being fueled even more by the absence of public appearances.
