New Delhi: The proposed trade agreement between India and the United States is moving closer to completion, with US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor scheduled to meet Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday for the final round of discussions.

According to reports by The Economic Times, the upcoming meeting is expected to focus on resolving the remaining issues in the negotiations as both countries push to conclude the long-awaited bilateral trade pact.

Final Negotiations Underway

Sergio Gor expressed confidence that the agreement could be wrapped up soon, indicating that both sides are nearing consensus on the pending matters. The discussions come at a time when officials from India and the US have intensified efforts to finalise the framework of the deal.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal recently stated that a large portion of the agreement has already been completed and that negotiations are now focused on ironing out the final details.

Focus on Strengthening Bilateral Trade

The trade pact is expected to further deepen economic ties between India and the United States by improving market access and enhancing cooperation across sectors. Officials from both countries have been holding multiple rounds of discussions over the past several months to move the agreement forward.

Earlier, Piyush Goyal had also noted that the negotiations had reached the stage of resolving the “commas and full stops,” suggesting that only minor technical and legal aspects remain before the agreement is finalised.

Growing Momentum Around the Deal

Recent engagements between Indian and American officials have reflected growing optimism surrounding the trade discussions. The proposed agreement has been viewed as a significant step toward expanding strategic and economic cooperation between the two nations.

As per The Economic Times report, Thursday’s meeting between Sergio Gor and Piyush Goyal is expected to play a crucial role in bringing the negotiations to a conclusion.
