PM Modi Announces $175 Million Economic Package To Boost Seychelles Development

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday unveiled a special economic package worth $175 million for the Republic of Seychelles, reaffirming India’s commitment to deepening ties with the island nation. The announcement was made during a joint press briefing with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie at Hyderabad House in the national capital.

Modi described development cooperation as the cornerstone of India-Seychelles relations, saying that New Delhi’s efforts have been guided by the priorities and needs of the Seychellois people. The package is designed to support a range of “concrete projects” in sectors including social housing, electric mobility (e-mobility), vocational training, healthcare, defence and maritime security.

The Indian leader stated that the assistance will not only address infrastructure and service needs but also create employment and skill-building opportunities for citizens of Seychelles, especially its youth. Modi’s remarks emphasized the mutual benefit of the partnership and the shared vision of both countries to foster peace, stability and prosperity.

The two leaders held discussions on avenues to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, encompassing not only development and capacity building but also strategic and security ties. With Seychelles being a key partner in the Indian Ocean Region, the package is expected to boost India’s engagement across multiple fronts and foster greater collaboration on both development and maritime issues.

The announcement coincides with continued efforts by India to extend economic and strategic support to island nations, reinforcing New Delhi’s broader diplomacy in its maritime neighbourhood. Analysts say such initiatives reflect a sustained push to deepen connectivity and shared prosperity among neighbouring states.
