New Jersy : India has strongly rejected recent remarks by White House trade advisor Peter Navarro, who alleged that Brahmins are profiteering at the expense of ordinary Indians, a claim he used to justify US President Donald Trump’s 50% tariff on Indian goods. Responding to Navarro’s comments, Jaiswal said, We have seen the inaccurate and misleading statements made by Mr. (Peter) Navarro and obviously, we reject them.
Jaiswal also called the relationship between India and the United States important for the central government and explained that both countries share a “comprehensive and global strategic partnership. This relationship between the United States and India is very important for us. He noted that the partnership has endured through multiple challenges and transitions and that both countries remain focused on advancing a substantive bilateral agenda. We hope that the relationship will continue to move forward based on mutual respect and shared interests.
Peter Navarro has repeatedly criticised India over its purchase of Russian crude oil, alleging that the move is indirectly fueling the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He has further claimed that India is reselling Russian oil to markets in Europe, Africa and Asia at a significant profit.
