PM Modi meets Meloni at G7 in Canada

KANANASKIS, Canada – During the 51st G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni shared a cordial moment that underscored the robust friendship between their nations. The leaders, meeting on the sidelines of the summit, engaged in a brief but warm conversation, marked by a handshake and smiles, as captured in a widely circulated video clip.

Meloni took to X to share a photograph of the encounter, captioning it, “Italy and India, linked by a great friendship.” In response, Modi echoed her sentiment on the same platform, stating, “Fully agree with you, PM Giorgia Meloni. India’s friendship with Italy will continue to get stronger, greatly benefitting our people!” Their exchange reflects a deepening diplomatic bond, with both leaders expressing enthusiasm for collaboration in areas such as sustainability, energy, and industry.

The interaction follows a pattern of friendly engagements between Modi and Meloni, which have previously captured public attention. At the COP28 summit in Dubai, Meloni shared a selfie with Modi, captioned “Good friends at COP28, #Melodi,” a hashtag that has since trended on social media. Similar moments during the G20 summit in India also went viral, with users adding Bollywood music and captions to videos of the leaders’ interactions.

Modi’s participation in the G7 Summit, his sixth consecutive appearance, included bilateral meetings with other global leaders, such as Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who welcomed him upon arrival at the Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge. The summit, hosted by Canada, focused on critical issues like energy security, technology, and global challenges, with India attending as an invitee for the outreach session.
