Washington: US President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit China from May 13 to 15 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, marking the first visit by an American president to the country in nearly nine years. The announcement was made by a spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry, according to reports published by Hindustan Times and PTI.
The visit comes at a time when relations between Washington and Beijing continue to face challenges over trade, Taiwan, and broader geopolitical developments. Reports indicated that discussions between Trump and Xi Jinping are expected to cover economic cooperation, regional security concerns, and the ongoing situation involving Iran.
According to Hindustan Times, White House officials described the trip as one of “tremendous symbolic significance.” Trump is expected to participate in an official welcome ceremony, bilateral meetings with Xi Jinping, and a state banquet during his stay in Beijing. Reports also suggested that the US President may visit cultural landmarks, including the Temple of Heaven, as part of the itinerary.
This will be Trump’s first official visit to China since his earlier trip in 2017 during his first presidential term. The visit had reportedly been delayed earlier due to tensions related to the Iran conflict. Analysts believe the high-level meeting could play an important role in stabilising ties between the two global powers amid ongoing diplomatic and economic uncertainties.
Hindustan Times reported that the summit is expected to draw significant international attention as both countries seek to manage differences while maintaining dialogue on critical global issues.
