Washington: Cole Thomas Allen, the man identified as the suspect in the shooting incident at an event attended by former US President Donald Trump, has been described as a NASA fellow, teacher, and engineer, according to a report by NDTV. The incident occurred during the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in Washington, prompting a swift security response and the evacuation of key officials.
As reported by NDTV, Allen, 31, is a resident of Torrance, California, and was stopped by security personnel before he could reach the main ballroom, where President Trump and thousands of guests were present. Authorities said he was armed with multiple weapons, including a shotgun, handgun, and knives, and exchanged gunfire with law enforcement officials at the security checkpoint.
Unverified online profiles, including LinkedIn, describe Allen as a mechanical engineer and computer scientist. He is reported to have completed his undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology and later earned a master’s degree in Computer Science from California State University-Dominguez Hills, NDTV noted.
The profiles further indicate that Allen had professional experience as a mechanical engineer and also worked as a teaching assistant. He was associated with C2 Education as a part-time teacher. Additionally, he reportedly participated in a summer research programme at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which contributed to his identification as a NASA fellow.
Allen is also said to have pursued independent projects as a game developer, creating titles such as “Bohrdom” and “First Law,” according to information cited by NDTV.
