FBI Releases CCTV Footage in Hunt for Charlie Kirk’s Killer

The FBI has released CCTV footage showing the suspect in the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. The video, circulated by the FBI, captures a figure dressed in dark clothing fleeing across a campus rooftop before descending and vanishing into a wooded area. Authorities believe the suspect, described as appearing college-aged, fired a single shot from the university’s Losee Center, approximately 100-200 yards from where Kirk was speaking, in what Utah officials have called a targeted attack.
Kirk, a prominent ally of President Donald Trump and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was addressing a crowd of about 3,000 during his “American Comeback Tour” when the shooting occurred. Moments before the attack, he was answering a question about mass shootings. Video footage from attendees, widely shared on social media, shows Kirk reacting to the shot, clutching his neck as blood flowed, before collapsing. The crowd erupted in panic, with screams and people fleeing the scene.
The FBI, led by Director Kash Patel, initially reported a suspect in custody but later clarified the individual was released after questioning. Utah Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason noted the shot, fired from 175 yards, required skill but not necessarily expert marksmanship. The suspect remains at large, prompting a manhunt. The FBI has offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to the shooter’s identification and arrest, urging the public to submit tips, photos, or videos.
President Trump condemned the killing, calling Kirk a “martyr for truth” and vowing to pursue those responsible. He attributed the attack to “radical left” rhetoric, a claim echoed in his Truth Social posts. Utah Governor Spencer Cox labeled the incident a “political assassination.” Vigils have been held across the region, and Kirk’s body was transported to Arizona aboard Air Force Two. The investigation continues as authorities comb through evidence to bring the perpetrator to justice.
