Canada Arrests Man For Country’s Biggest Gold Heist, Know Who Is Arsalan Chaudhary?
Toronto : Canada’s Peel Police on Monday took a 43-year-old man, identified as Arsalan Chaudhary, into custody in connection with Project 24K, a probe into over $20 million worth of gold bars. It is said to be the largest gold heist in the country’s history. According to reports, Arsalan was arrested at Toronto Pearson International Airport.
We were able to prepare and then arrest him shortly before 9 a.m. when he landed this morning on a flight from Dubai, Mavity said. The arrest is part of Project 24K, an ongoing investigation into the high-profile heist. Chaudhary has been charged with theft of over 5,000 Canadian dollars, possession of property obtained by crime and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. He has been remanded in custody pending a bail hearing.
Chaudhary reportedly has “no fixed address” and is facing theft charges of more than $5,000, property possession from proceeds of crime, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. He was held for a bail hearing and produced before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton. A flight en route from Switzerland’s Zurich arrived at Toronto Pearson International Airport on April 17, 2023, reports added.
It carried a freight containing 400 kg .9999-pure gold, worth $20 million, along with $2.5 million in foreign currency. The cargo shipment was then transported to a different location in the airport. Hours later, it was reported as missing, prompting a cross-border probe. Police identified and issued warrants against ten people in connection with the gold heist. Among them was Simran Preet Panesar (33), a former Air Canada employee currently believed to be in India. He reportedly diverted a shipment by manipulating airline systems. In 2024, he was tracked down from a rented apartment on the outskirts of Chandigarh. An arrest warrant has been issued against him.
