BTS’ RM and V finally discharged from mandatory military service

On June 11, 2025, BTS members RM and V were officially discharged from their mandatory military service in South Korea, welcomed by an ecstatic crowd of fans at the Sports Park in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province. The milestone marked the end of their 18-month service, which began on December 11, 2023.

Despite BigHit Music’s appeal to avoid gathering at the site for safety reasons, hundreds of BTS fans, known as ARMYs, assembled to celebrate RM (Kim Nam-joon) and V (Kim Tae-hyung). The agency stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of both artists and fans, encouraging supporters to share their enthusiasm remotely. RM, who served in the 15th Infantry Division’s military band in Hwacheon, charmed the crowd with a lively saxophone performance, while V, previously with the Special Duty Team under the 2nd Corps Military Police in Chuncheon, was seen clutching bouquets and flashing smiles for fans and cameras.

The heartwarming reunion fueled viral videos and photos that swept across social media. One clip captured RM and V leaping with joy, while another showcased their camaraderie as they laughed together in their military uniforms. V shared a touching Instagram Stories update, posting a photo of the pair walking arm-in-arm, captioned with their enlistment and discharge dates, striking an emotional chord with fans.

In a message to fans shortly after their discharge, RM and V voiced their eagerness to return to the stage. “I believe it’d be the same thing perform,” RM stated, with V echoing, “Perform.” The duo further delighted supporters by sharing their ambitions, saying, “We want to have a concert, perform on stage,” a sentiment that sparked excitement among fans. The timing of their discharge aligns closely with BTS’s annual FESTA anniversary, set for June 13, 2025.

BigHit Music released a statement on Weverse, acknowledging the simultaneous discharge of other soldiers and reiterating that no official events were planned due to space limitations and safety concerns. The agency thanked fans for their steadfast support and pledged ongoing commitment to BTS.
The discharge of RM and V a key step toward BTS’s group activities, that members Jimin and Jungkook are slated for discharge on June 12, 2025, and Suga, fulfilling a social service role, is expected to complete his service on June 21. Jin, the first BTS member to enlist, was discharged in June 2024.
