8 Shot in Brooklyn During Fourth of July Night, Including 4 Children; Woman in Critical Condition

At least eight people, including four children, were shot late on the night of July 4 in Brooklyn, New York, leaving one woman in critical condition.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) responded to an emergency call at around 10:37 pm at 2929 West 31st Street. According to ABC News, the victims included two women and four children aged 4, 6, 7 and 12.

Police recovered a firearm from the scene, but no arrests had been made at the time of reporting. Citing the NYPD, ABC News reported that all of the injured were transported to hospital for treatment.

According to the NYPD, a six-year-old boy sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach, a seven-year-old boy was shot in both legs, a 12-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, and a 14-year-old boy was shot in the thigh.

Authorities said seven of the victims were in stable condition, while a 21-year-old woman remained in critical condition. Police added that the investigation is ongoing.

The shooting occurred as the United States marked the 250th anniversary of its Independence Day on Saturday.
