Authorities filed a police complaint against a female traveler at Bhubaneswar’s Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) on Thursday for allegedly damaging property valued at ₹49,000.
After an IndiGo flight to Kolkata was canceled owing to a technical issue, the passenger, named as Mamoni Kharat, was charged with disruptive behavior, damaging airport property, and causing a commotion in the airport’s departure lounge.
The passenger was supposed to travel to Kolkata aboard IndiGo flight 6E 7352, according to the complaint submitted to the Airfield police station.
According to the complaint, the passenger became agitated in front of representatives from the Airports Authority of India, IndiGo, and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
The incident is said to have happened on Thursday at around six o’clock in the evening. On social media, a video allegedly depicting the passenger’s disruptive behavior at the airport appeared and swiftly gained popularity.
After the flight was canceled, the video depicts a furious confrontation and purported damage to airport infrastructure.
“A technical issue discovered during the aircraft’s required pre-departure check led to the cancelation of IndiGo flight 6E 7352, which was supposed to leave from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata on August 13, 2026. In a statement, IndiGo stated, “We regret the inconvenience caused to our customers and took all efforts to minimize the same, including offering them regular updates, refreshments, accommodations, alternate travel options, and full refunds as applicable.” According to AAI, the passenger caused damage to a passport-swiping machine, a keyboard, and a monitor, resulting in an estimated loss of ₹49,000.
In accordance with routine operating standards, one of the patrons who damaged airport property during this time was deemed disorderly and turned over to the appropriate security agencies. The police were asked by BPIA authorities to take the necessary steps and get the passenger to pay for the damaged equipment.
