West Bengal Polls 2026: Repolling Begins At 15 Booths After EVM Tampering Row

Dhaka: Fresh voting is currently underway in parts of West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district after allegations of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) tampering disrupted the recent phase of Assembly elections, as reported by Free Press Journal. The development has intensified political tensions, with rival parties trading accusations over the integrity of the electoral process.

According to Free Press Journal, the Election Commission of India (ECI) ordered repolling at 15 polling stations following complaints of irregularities during the second phase of voting held on April 29. The affected booths are located in the Magrahat Paschim and Diamond Harbour constituencies, where concerns were raised about possible manipulation of voting machines.

The report states that the repolling process began in the morning under strict security arrangements to ensure a smooth and transparent voting exercise. Authorities have deployed additional personnel to maintain order and prevent any disruptions during the fresh polling.

The issue has triggered a political confrontation between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC). While the BJP has welcomed the Election Commission’s decision to conduct repolling, the TMC has accused its rival of spreading misleading claims regarding EVM tampering. Both sides have continued to exchange allegations, reflecting the charged atmosphere surrounding the elections.

The controversy stems from multiple complaints lodged after the second phase of polling, prompting the Election Commission to review the situation and order corrective measures. As noted by Free Press Journal, the decision to hold repolls underscores the Commission’s effort to address concerns and uphold the credibility of the electoral process.

With voting underway once again in the affected booths, attention remains focused on ensuring fairness and transparency. The outcome of the repolling exercise is expected to play a role in shaping the broader electoral landscape in the state.
