
Dhaka: Authorities in West Bengal have taken action following incidents of violence reported during the first phase of the state Assembly elections, with arrests already made, according to ANI. West Bengal Additional Director General (Legal) Anand Kumar confirmed that law enforcement agencies responded promptly to disturbances and ensured that those responsible were apprehended.
Speaking to ANI, Kumar stated that police acted wherever incidents of unrest were reported during polling. He emphasized that maintaining law and order remained a top priority and that strict measures were implemented to address any disruptions. The official noted that the situation was closely monitored, and appropriate legal steps were taken against individuals involved in violent activities.
The first phase of polling witnessed scattered incidents of clashes and tension in certain areas, drawing attention from authorities and political stakeholders. Despite these occurrences, officials reiterated that efforts were made to ensure that the electoral process continued smoothly and that voters could exercise their franchise.
Kumar further highlighted that preventive measures and security arrangements had been put in place ahead of polling, and swift responses were ensured during incidents. The administration, along with security forces, worked to contain situations and restore normalcy wherever required.
According to ANI, the state police and other agencies remain vigilant as the election process progresses, with a continued focus on preventing further disturbances. Officials have also underlined the importance of conducting free and fair elections, assuring that any attempt to disrupt the process would be dealt with firmly.
The developments come amid heightened political activity in the state, where multiple phases of polling are scheduled. Authorities have urged citizens to participate in the democratic process without fear, assuring them of adequate security arrangements in subsequent phases.
