New Delhi: A video on social media had raised concern over hygienic food in the Indian Railways Network. Over the years, an end number of cases have been cropped up showing poor hygiene quality and rates for meals served in trains. In the same pattern, a new video has emerged of a railway samosa seller who went viral across every platform.
The brief clip is alarming to those who value cleanliness and sanitation. In the video it can be clearly seen that a samosa seller is sitting near the markedly unhygienic space wash basin leaning onto it with one foot above the open crate of samosas that are meant to sell for the passengers in the train. Also, the man is seen talking on a call while the other person is seen recording this video.
The scenario showcases high risk of health. The unsanitary conditions visible in the footage could easily contaminate the food and potentially expose consumers to serious health problems, including diarrhea and other gastrointestinal illnesses.

The incident highlights the ongoing challenges railway authorities face in daily routine. Catering services need to be set with high priority in order to cater passengers of good quality and healthy food. Even passengers expect the same while travelling as they definitely want their journey to be a memorable one. Yet incidents like such are continuing to raise questions about oversight and enforcement of food safety regulations on trains.
However, after the clip went viral the railway authority acknowledged the situation and gave a response. IRCTC Officials mentioned, “The matter was thoroughly investigated and found to be a case of unauthorized vending, which has been intimated to the concerned authorities for appropriate action. The onboard service provider has been cautioned and instructed to immediately report such incidents to the authorities for suitable action in future. Adherence to food safety and service standards remains of paramount importance.”
