Twisha Sharma’s Mother-in-Law Feeds Stray Dogs as CBI Custody Looms

Bhopal: In a poignant scene captured on Thursday morning, Giribala Singh, the mother-in-law of deceased woman Twisha Sharma and a former district judge, was seen feeding stray dogs outside her residence in Bhopal. This came just a day after the Jabalpur High Court quashed her anticipatory bail in the high-profile dowry death case.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials are now expected to take Singh into custody for further questioning as the probe intensifies.

The Jabalpur bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, on Wednesday, set aside the anticipatory bail that a Bhopal sessions court had granted to Singh on May 15. The case involves allegations of cruelty and dowry harassment under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Dowry Prohibition Act.

In its order, the high court observed that the trial court had not properly considered the evidence available in the case diary, including witness statements and complaints lodged by the deceased’s family. The bench highlighted statements recorded from Twisha Sharma’s relatives since May 13, which alleged that Singh and her son had harassed Twisha and pressured her to terminate her pregnancy.

The court also took note of WhatsApp chats and postmortem findings that revealed multiple ante-mortem injuries on the body. It emphasized that the gravity of the material on record warranted a more thorough investigation.

During the hearing, the prosecution and CBI submitted that Singh had not fully cooperated with the probe despite being issued notices. They argued that custodial interrogation was essential given the seriousness of the allegations and the current stage of the investigation.

Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida, had married Bhopal-based Samarth Singh in December 2025. Following her death on May 12, her family accused her in-laws of subjecting her to sustained dowry-related harassment.

The development has drawn significant attention, with the case now moving into a critical phase as the CBI prepares to take the former judge into custody. The visuals of Singh calmly feeding stray dogs have circulated widely, presenting a striking contrast to the legal battle unfolding around her.
