Medak: A shocking incident from Telangana’s Medak district has put the spotlight back on the risks faced by couples in inter-caste marriages. A newlywed woman was allegedly taken away by her family from her husband’s home just two days after the couple tied the knot, with CCTV footage of the incident now becoming a key part of the police investigation.
The couple, Pranay and his wife, had reportedly married on July 6 despite strong opposition from the woman’s family. Before the wedding, they had approached the police seeking protection, saying they feared interference from her relatives. After speaking to both families, police allowed the couple to live together as the woman, an adult, reportedly made it clear that she wanted to stay with her husband.
According to Pranay, the situation took a dramatic turn when several of the woman’s relatives arrived at his house in Ellapur village while most family members were away. He alleged that the group barged into the house, pushed his mother aside and forcibly took his wife with them. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed outside the house.
Pranay has since lodged a complaint with the Papannapet police, claiming his wife was taken away against her will. His family has urged the authorities to trace her immediately, saying they fear for her safety.
Police have confirmed that they are investigating the case and are trying to locate the woman. Officials say her statement will be crucial in determining whether she was forcibly taken away or left voluntarily. Depending on the findings, further legal action will follow.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the continuing resistance faced by inter caste couples in several parts of the country. Although the law protects the right of two consenting adults to marry, family opposition often leads to harassment, threats and, in some cases, allegations of abduction or violence.
As of Friday, the woman’s whereabouts had not been officially disclosed, and no arrests had been announced. The investigation is continuing.
