Amaira Meena Case: CBSE Pulls Affiliation

Jaipur: Every school morning begins with the same promise. Parents wave goodbye, children walk into classrooms, and everyone expects them to return home safely. For the family of nine year old Amaira Meena, that promise was shattered on November 1, 2025.

The Class 4 student of Neerja Modi School in Jaipur died after falling from the fourth floor of the school building in an incident that has since become one of India’s most heartbreaking and closely watched school safety cases. What initially appeared to be a tragic death has evolved into a nationwide debate over bullying, institutional accountability, child safety and whether repeated cries for help from a young child were ignored.

A Morning That Started Like Any Other

According to CCTV footage reviewed during the investigation, Amaira entered her classroom as usual. She greeted classmates, smiled, danced during a classroom activity and appeared cheerful during the early part of the day.

But investigators say something changed later that morning.

Footage reportedly shows a digital writing slate being passed among students. According to Amaira’s family, messages displayed on the slate caused her visible distress. The family alleges that classmates repeatedly bullied and humiliated her, leaving the nine year old upset inside the classroom.

The Pleas That Have Become the Centre of the Case

The investigation gained national attention after reports and CCTV footage suggested Amaira repeatedly approached her class teacher before leaving the classroom.

According to findings cited in the CBSE inquiry and media reports, she sought help multiple times over nearly 45 minutes. The inquiry stated that she appeared anxious and emotionally disturbed but did not receive the intervention that investigators believed the situation demanded.

Minutes later, Amaira left the classroom.

She eventually reached the fourth floor and fell from the building. She was rushed to hospital but was declared dead.

Her death sent shockwaves across Jaipur and beyond.

Parents Say the Warning Signs Had Been There for Months

Amaira’s parents maintain that this tragedy did not happen without warning.

They allege their daughter had been facing bullying for over a year and that they repeatedly informed teachers and school authorities about the harassment. According to the family, Amaira often returned home upset and had pleaded with them not to send her back to school.

The parents have also alleged that some classmates used abusive and inappropriate language toward her and that repeated complaints failed to result in meaningful action. These allegations have formed a major part of the ongoing legal battle.

CCTV Release Brings Fresh Attention

Nearly eight months after the incident, Amaira’s family publicly released additional classroom CCTV footage, saying it showed the bullying their daughter allegedly endured shortly before her death.

The newly released footage has reignited public debate, with the family arguing that it captures repeated attempts by Amaira to seek help from her teacher before she ran out of the classroom. The school’s response to these allegations remains part of the legal process, and responsibility continues to be examined by investigators.

Investigation and Legal Action

Following the incident, Rajasthan Police registered a case and launched an investigation.

Over the following months, education authorities and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) also examined the circumstances surrounding Amaira’s death.

A CBSE fact finding committee concluded that there were serious shortcomings in the school’s counselling and grievance redressal systems and highlighted what it described as significant failures in maintaining child safety standards. The committee also referred to repeated complaints of bullying and stated that greater intervention from school authorities was warranted.

CBSE subsequently withdrew Neerja Modi School’s affiliation, citing gross violations of child safety norms and deficiencies in student welfare mechanisms.

Family Seeks Wider Accountability

In July 2026, Amaira’s family questioned why the school’s principal and founder were reportedly not included in the police chargesheet. They have demanded broader accountability, insisting that responsibility should extend beyond individual teachers if institutional failures contributed to the tragedy.

As investigations and court proceedings continue, Amaira’s story has become a powerful reminder that behind every statistic is a child, behind every CCTV clip is a life, and behind every demand for justice is a family still searching for answers.
