Tamil Nadu : AIADMK’s ‘Coffin Dance’ Jab At Vijay After Man Dies At His Salem Rally

Salem : Hours after a man died of heatstroke at Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay’s rally in Salem, the AIADMK on Friday mocked the actor-politician with a post. AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan shared a post featuring the viral Dancing Pallbearers, a Ghananian group of dancers performing a coffin dance.

Looks like to attend a TVK rally in the future, one should carry his/her coffin, Sathyan said. The TVK did not respond at the time of writing this story. Earlier in the day, a man died after collapsing at a public rally addressed by Vijay in Salem, with police sources attributing the death primarily to heatstroke caused by dehydration. The man fainted at the venue and later succumbed to his condition.

Nirmal Kumar, a TVK leader, identified the victim as Suraj, saying he collapsed suddenly due to ill health while attending the public meeting. “He was immediately given first aid, and the organisers rushed him to the hospital in time. However, Suraj’s death due to a heart attack is heartbreaking,” Nirmal Kumar wrote, extending his “deepest condolences for the untimely death of young Suraj.”

Police sources said the organisers had allowed over 7,000 people into the venue despite a sanctioned capacity of 5,000, and that individuals with health issues were also permitted entry. They added that an FIR will be registered against the organisers once the exact cause of death is established. The incident revived memories of the Karur rally stampede involving Vijay last September, which claimed 41 lives.
