At least one person died after a multi-storey house collapsed in the Seemapuri area of East Delhi on Wednesday. Eight people have been rescued in a joint operation by Delhi Fire Services (DFS) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The body of a minor has been recovered from the debris, and rescue teams suspect that a few more people may still be trapped under the rubble.

The fire department received information about the incident at 3:32 PM, after which a rescue team reached the spot. Two people were reported injured, and several others are believed to be trapped. The police are also taking part in the rescue operation.

“Search and rescue operation is ongoing,” a DFS officer said, according to PTI.

Injured taken to Rajiv Gandhi Hospital

The injured were rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in ambulances. Efforts to clear the debris are continuing.

The Delhi Traffic Police reported disruptions in traffic movement around Seemapuri Gol Chakkar, DLF Bhopura and adjoining roads. In an advisory, the police said: “Every clear lane gives an ambulance and rescue vehicle a faster way through. Please avoid the area if possible. Do not stop, park or gather near the site, and follow the directions of traffic personnel. Delhi Traffic Police.”

According to locals, the building stood on a 25-square-yard plot that belonged to Mohammed Anwar. His son-in-law, Mohammed Akbar, who witnessed the collapse, said three family members, including his sister-in-law, remain trapped.
