New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) chief spokesperson Saurav Das on Wednesday alleged that several YouTubers and media personnel entered his residence without permission and recorded videos from inside the property, describing the incident as a “grave security threat” to him and his family.
In a series of posts on X, Das claimed the alleged intrusion took place while he was attending the CJP’s two day strategy meeting in Maharashtra. He said the circulation of videos from inside his residence had compromised his family’s safety and privacy, adding that if any anti social elements targeted his home because of the footage, those responsible for recording and sharing the videos should be held accountable.
Das further alleged that around 15 to 20 individuals gathered at his residence on Wednesday morning, while some had reportedly remained outside the property since the previous night. According to him, the crowd and the publication of visuals from inside the house had heightened security concerns for everyone staying at the residence.
The CJP spokesperson tagged the Delhi Police in his social media posts, seeking intervention. However, as of Wednesday evening, Delhi Police had not publicly confirmed the allegations or announced any official action regarding the incident. No verified response had been issued by the YouTubers or media organisations named by Das, and the claims remain unverified by law enforcement.
The allegations quickly triggered political reactions. Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien said the issue would be raised in the Rajya Sabha, calling for parliamentary attention to the matter. Das acknowledged the support in a reply on social media.
AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal also reacted, accusing the Centre of intimidation over the incident. Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi criticised the alleged targeting of student protesters, saying they were being punished for demanding reforms in the education system. Referring to reports of pressure on protest participants and their families, Gandhi described such actions as unacceptable and contrary to democratic values.
The controversy comes at a time when the newly formed CJP is holding a two day organisational meeting in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, to decide its future strategy. Party founder Abhijeet Dipke has said the organisation intends to continue functioning primarily as a public pressure group while expanding its activities across the country, including extending support to ongoing student movements.
Das has emerged as one of the prominent faces associated with recent student protests and has been serving as the party’s chief spokesperson since the formation of the CJP.
With no official confirmation yet from the police, the incident has sparked a wider debate over the limits of media access, the conduct of independent content creators, and the balance between public interest reporting and an individual’s right to privacy. Whether authorities launch a formal investigation is likely to determine the next course of developments.
