Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday stirred fresh political controversy after taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that “The same land that produced Aurangazeb also produced people like him.”
Raut made the remark while speaking to reporters, drawing a comparison that is likely to invite a sharp reactions from the BJP. Through he did not elaborate extensively on the statement, the comment was seen as a direct attack on the Prime Minister’s leadership style.
The Rajya Sabha MP has previously used refrences to Mughal ruler Aurangazeb while criticising the BJP and PM Modi. Similar remark made during the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign had triggered a political shutown between the ruling party and the opposition.
BJP leaders have often ismissed such comparison as inappropriate and politically motivated, while opposition leaders argue that they are part of legitimate political criticism.
With tensions between the ruling alliance and opposition parties continuing to run high, Raut’s latest remarks are expected to add fuel to an already heated political disclousre.
