Four Siblings and Cousin Drown in Pond as Father Saves Two Children

A family outing ended in heartbreak in Rajasthan’s Dungarpur district on Sunday after four members of a family drowned while bathing in a village pond. Two children were rescued by their father, but the remaining four could not be saved despite his desperate efforts.

The incident occurred at Vatrak pond in Badi village when six children from the same family entered the water for a bath at around 10 am. According to police, the group unknowingly moved into a deeper section of the pond, where they began struggling to stay afloat.

Hearing the children’s cries for help, Suresh Singh, who was nearby, rushed into the pond to rescue them. He managed to pull his son, Jaisingh Damor, and another child, Rajveer Damor, to safety. However, despite his efforts, four others drowned before they could be rescued. Both surviving children were admitted to Simalwara Hospital for treatment.

The victims were identified as Hina Damor (24), Pratik Damor (20), and Ishita Damor (15), siblings and children of farmer Babu Singh Damor. The fourth victim was their 20-year-old cousin, Raunak Parmar, who had travelled from Palanpur in Gujarat to visit the family.

The tragedy has left the family and the local community in deep shock. Hina, the eldest among the siblings, was employed as a teacher at a private school in the village. Pratik had recently cleared his Class 12 examinations and had applied for college admission, while Ishita was studying in Class 11 and preparing for her higher secondary education.

Police said the bodies were recovered from the pond and further legal formalities were initiated. Authorities are also examining the circumstances surrounding the incident while urging people to remain cautious around water bodies, particularly during the monsoon season when ponds and reservoirs can become unexpectedly deep and hazardous.
