Rahul Gandhi’s Air India Flight Aborts Landing in Lucknow Due to Gusty Winds, Lands Safely on Second Try

An Air India flight carrying Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi performed a go-around at Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport on Tuesday due to gusty winds, before landing safely on its second attempt, sources said.

Flight AI-1717, travelling from Delhi to Lucknow, aborted its first landing attempt at around 3.45 pm after the crew assessed the weather conditions. The aircraft landed safely about 10 minutes later, at 3.55 pm.

A go-around is a routine procedure in which pilots abandon a landing attempt, climb back to a safe altitude and try again. It may be carried out due to weather, runway conditions, air traffic, or an approach deemed unsuitable for landing.
