PM Modi to Address Nation at 8:30 PM, a Day After Women’s Reservation Bill Fails in Lok Sabha

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 8:30 pm on Saturday. The subject of his address has not been officially disclosed.

The announcement comes a day after the BJP-led government suffered a significant legislative setback in the Lok Sabha, where a Constitution Amendment Bill linked to the Women’s Reservation policy failed to secure the required majority. The bill, which sought to implement women’s reservation through delimitation, needed a two-thirds majority to pass but fell short following a lengthy and heated debate in the lower house.

In the final vote, 298 members backed the bill while 230 voted against it, leading to its defeat a rare loss for the ruling government on a major reform measure. Modi’s previous address to the nation was on September 21, when he spoke on GST reforms.
