New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday sought to boost the confidence of newly inducted and first time National Democratic Alliance (NDA) lawmakers during a high profile breakfast meeting at his official residence, telling Trinamool Congress rebels and former Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs that they had “nothing to worry about” and assuring them of his full support.
The interaction came at a politically significant moment, with Parliament witnessing repeated disruptions during the Monsoon Session. Addressing around 45 Lok Sabha MPs who have recently joined the NDA or are serving their first term, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of active participation in parliamentary proceedings and urged members to make the most of every opportunity to speak in the House.
According to sources, Mr Modi described Parliament as the “supreme temple of democracy” and expressed concern that frequent disruptions were depriving new lawmakers of the chance to raise issues affecting their constituencies. He encouraged MPs to prepare thoroughly, study parliamentary traditions and contribute meaningfully to debates rather than remain silent spectators.
During the interaction, the Prime Minister is learnt to have personally reassured MPs who recently switched political camps, including Trinamool Congress rebels and former Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders now aligned with the NDA. “There is no need to worry. I am with you,” he reportedly told them, signalling the BJP leadership’s backing for the alliance’s newest entrants.
Sources said Mr Modi also advised lawmakers to maintain cordial relations across party lines, reminding them that political differences inside Parliament should not translate into personal hostility outside it. He urged MPs to stay connected with people in their constituencies, focus on development oriented politics and maintain discipline both inside and outside the House.
The breakfast meeting followed another outreach initiative by the Prime Minister a day earlier, when he hosted a dinner interaction with 37 BJP MPs. The back to back engagements are being viewed as part of the BJP leadership’s broader effort to mentor new legislators, strengthen coordination within the NDA and ensure effective participation during the ongoing Monsoon Session.
The current session of Parliament is expected to witness discussions on several important legislative proposals, making active floor management and alliance coordination crucial for the government. Against this backdrop, Friday’s meeting underscored the NDA leadership’s focus on keeping its lawmakers united while encouraging them to play a more visible role in parliamentary debates.
Political observers believe the Prime Minister’s direct outreach to MPs who have recently joined the alliance also sends a message of cohesion within the NDA at a time when political realignments continue to reshape the national landscape.
