PM Modi Conferred With ‘Guardian Of The Blue Horizon’ Title By Seychelles

Victoria, Seychelles : In a significant diplomatic milestone emphasizing strong maritime and ecological ties, Seychelles has presented Prime Minister Narendra Modi with its highest national distinction, the “Guardian of the Blue Horizon” title.

According to Asian News International (ANI), the prestigious award recognizes the Prime Minister’s consistent global leadership in ecological conservation, green growth, and sustainable development. The presentation underscores India’s expanding role in environmental diplomacy and its collaborative vision for the Indian Ocean region.

A Growing Portfolio of International Honors

The “Guardian of the Blue Horizon” title is the most recent addition to a distinguished line of international awards recognizing the Indian leader’s dedication to sustainability and climate advocacy. ANI highlights that this presentation follows closely on the heels of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) awarding him the Agricola Medal in May 2026 for his advancements in food security and sustainable farming.

Additionally, his prior global accolades include the United Nations’ Champions of the Earth Award in 2018 for policy leadership, alongside the 2018 Seoul Peace Prize for driving inclusive global development and economic cooperation.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations on a Historic Milestone

The award ceremony took place during high-level diplomatic engagements on the Prime Minister’s three-day state visit to the island nation. In an official press statement covered by ANI, Seychelles President Patrick Herminie expressed deep appreciation for the solid friendship and mutual trust existing between the two countries.

Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles, President Herminie highlighted their shared history and geographic alignment, reaffirming a collective dedication to maintaining a stable, prosperous, and secure Indian Ocean ecosystem.

Frameworks for Future Strategic Alliances

A central component of the bilateral discussions focused on the active execution of the Joint Vision for Sustainability, Economic Growth, and Security through Enhanced Linkages. Adopted by Seychelles earlier this year, the framework serves as a strategic roadmap for cross-sectoral collaboration between the two partners.

The comprehensive talks involved key diplomatic figures from both sides. The Indian delegation featured External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. The Seychelles side was represented by Vice President Sebastien Pillay, Minister for Fisheries, Agriculture and the Blue Economy Wallace Cosgrow, and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Barry Faure.

Prior to the formal dialogue, Prime Minister Modi was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the State House, marking the commencement of a visit that includes an address to the National Assembly of Seychelles and interactions with the local Indian diaspora.
