The Indian government has assured 100 per cent uninterrupted supply of domestic LPG, Piped Natural Gas, and Compressed Natural Gas for transport, even as the ongoing West Asia conflict has disrupted crude oil and gas imports, a senior petroleum ministry official said on Tuesday.
Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary (Marketing & Oil Refinery) in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, made the announcement at an inter-ministerial briefing.
“As you know, due to the West Asia crisis, our country has also been affected by the import of crude oil, LPG and PNG. But the Indian government has been trying to reduce the problems faced by our domestic consumers. As you know, 100% supply has been ensured for domestic LPG consumers, PNG consumers and CNG transport,” Sharma said.
On the commercial LPG front, Sharma said restoration has reached 70 per cent, with hospitals and educational institutions receiving priority supply. The pharmaceutical, steel, agriculture, and seed sectors are also being prioritised. Supply of 5 kg FTL cylinders for migrant labour has been nearly doubled.
“Our LPG supply is normal, and there is no dry-out report on any distributor,” she added.
Sales data for April reflects rising demand. Nearly 1,75,000 tonnes of commercial LPG were sold during the month, with daily averages for public sector undertakings touching 353 tonnes in April up from 177 tonnes daily in January and February. The government urged the public not to panic over supply disruptions.
