IIT Delhi Leads India In QS World University Rankings 2027 As Indian Higher Education Gains Global Recognition

New Delhi : India’s higher education sector has achieved another significant milestone, with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) emerging as the country’s top-ranked institution in the QS World University Rankings 2027. According to the rankings released by QS Quacquarelli Symonds and reported by NDTV, IIT Delhi secured the 118th position globally, improving its standing from last year’s ranking and reaffirming its position as India’s leading institution..

The improvement reflects the institute’s continued progress in areas such as academic reputation, employer recognition, research impact and global engagement, underscoring the growing strength of India’s premier educational institutions.

India’s Presence in Global Rankings Reaches New Heights

The latest rankings feature 52 Indian universities, marking one of the country’s strongest representations in the global assessment. As reported by NDTV, the broad participation of Indian institutions highlights the expanding footprint of India’s higher education ecosystem on the world stage. 

Talking to NDTV on the achievement, Prof. Somnath Baidya Roy, Dean, Planning and Head, Ranking Cell, IIT Delhi, said, “IIT Delhi remains committed to the goal of providing world-class affordable technological education and becoming a preferred destination for scholars worldwide.” He further noted that the institute’s revamped curriculum, new infrastructure and increased international engagement are expected to strengthen its global standing in the coming years.

The QS World University Rankings evaluate institutions based on several parameters, including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, research citations and international collaboration. India’s growing representation reflects sustained efforts to enhance educational quality, research output and global competitiveness. 

IITs Continue to Drive India’s Global Academic Reputation

Alongside IIT Delhi, several other Indian Institutes of Technology secured notable positions in the rankings. IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Kanpur were among the country’s highest-ranked institutions, demonstrating the continued prominence of India’s engineering and technology education sector. 

The performance of these institutions reinforces India’s reputation as a hub for technical education and innovation, with IITs continuing to attract recognition from employers, researchers and academic communities worldwide.
