Breaking: M K Stalin Resigns As Tamil Nadu CM After DMK Defeat

Chennai: M. K. Stalin resigned as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, according to a report by Press Trust of India (PTI), which cited party sources. His resignation letter has been submitted to the office of Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar.

The move follows the DMK’s defeat in the Assembly elections held on April 23, where the party lost power to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by Vijay. The election results marked a significant shift in the state’s political dynamics.

In the 234-member Assembly, the DMK secured 59 seats, positioning itself as the principal opposition party. Meanwhile, the AIADMK won 47 seats. The TVK emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats, falling short of an outright majority but taking the lead in government formation.

Following the outcome, Stalin stated that the DMK would now take on the role of a strong and responsible opposition, reflecting the party’s commitment to representing public concerns despite being out of power.
