In a deeply disturbing incident from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, a nine-month-old girl was allegedly kidnapped from beside her sleeping mother and sexually assaulted by a 12-year-old boy.
The event occurred in the Gulariha police station area. According to accounts, the infant went missing around 2 a.m. on Saturday. Family members launched an urgent search across the village and surrounding fields. The child was discovered the following morning, approximately 500 metres from her home, near a tin shed in a field. She was bleeding and clearly in significant distress.
Relatives immediately took her to a nearby community health centre. Her condition deteriorated, prompting referral to BRD Medical College for further care. Medical examinations confirmed that the infant had been sexually assaulted. She remains in critical condition and is receiving treatment.
Investigators focused on family members during questioning, including the child’s parents and grandparents. Their attention turned to a 12-year-old male relative who had arrived from Chandigarh just three days prior. The boy was taken into custody on Sunday.
During interrogation, the juvenile initially provided inconsistent statements but later confessed, according to police. He reportedly told authorities that he had consumed alcohol on Friday night and then viewed pornographic material on his mobile phone before carrying out the abduction of the sleeping child.
Examination of the boy’s phone revealed more than 50 obscene videos along with records of searches for over 100 pornographic websites.
Authorities have initiated further legal proceedings in the case as the young victim continues to receive medical attention. This incident has highlighted grave concerns about the influences affecting young individuals and the vulnerability of children even within family settings.
