Meerut: What began as an evening outing for a man and a woman allegedly turned into a dramatic road confrontation when his wife spotted them together and tried to stop their car from leaving. Moments later, she was reportedly clinging to the bonnet of the moving vehicle as onlookers gathered around.
The incident took place in Meerut on Saturday evening and has since attracted attention after a video of the confrontation surfaced.
According to reports, Sunita allegedly spotted her husband, Mayank, having momos with another woman, identified as Mahi, in the Shastri Nagar area. Believing that the woman was involved with her husband, Sunita confronted the pair and demanded answers.
The argument quickly escalated. When Mayank allegedly attempted to leave in his Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, Sunita moved in front of the vehicle to stop him. She eventually ended up on the bonnet as the car began moving.
A video from the scene reportedly shows Sunita holding on to the vehicle while calling for help. People nearby can be heard reacting to the incident as the car moves forward. The vehicle was eventually stopped.
Sunita subsequently approached the police and levelled several allegations against her husband, including assault, dowry harassment and infidelity. Police registered a case that includes an allegation of attempted murder.
Police have since arrested Mayank and Mahi and seized the vehicle allegedly involved in the incident.
There is some uncertainty over the exact distance for which Sunita was carried on the bonnet. One report puts it at approximately 100 metres, while another claims she remained on the vehicle for nearly five kilometres. The exact distance has not been independently established and remains subject to the police investigation.
The case has now moved beyond the dramatic roadside confrontation, with investigators examining the complaint, video footage and other available evidence to establish exactly what happened.
For residents and onlookers, what started as an alleged confrontation over a plate of momos ended with a far more serious police case and a video that quickly turned the Meerut incident into a talking point.
