New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced a seven-point reform plan called ‘Shakti ki Saptdhara’ for the next phase of reforms. He said the plan would help India move towards the goal of becoming a developed country, or Viksit Bharat. Speaking to the nation from the Red Fort on the 80th Independence Day, PM Modi referred to the historical idea of ‘Sapta Sindhu’. He said India now needs a new wave of development to build a strong and developed nation.
The Prime Minister added that the potential of India’s youth would be fully harnessed and integrated into nation-building. PM Modi outlined seven key areas that he said would drive India’s development – manufacturing, agriculture and food processing, technology and innovation, Gati Shakti (mobility and connectivity), Raksha Shakti (defence security), the green and blue economy, and the country’s soft power. On agriculture and food processing, the Prime Minister said India must focus on taking its products to global markets and turning them into internationally recognised brands.
He also said that India must strengthen its capabilities in emerging technologies to drive the next phase of growth. Under Gati Shakti, PM Modi said, the government will focus on faster and seamless connectivity, with high-speed transport and infrastructure playing a key role in improving the movement of people and goods. The Prime Minister stressed that the fifth stream, Raksha Shakti, focusses on making India self-reliant in defence technology. He stressed the need to develop next-generation defence capabilities, including drones and supersonic technologies.
The sixth area, he said, is the green and blue economy. PM Modi also said India’s vast natural resources offered significant opportunities to build a sustainable economy while creating new avenues for growth.The seventh stream is soft power, with the Prime Minister highlighting India’s strengths in Yoga, Ayurveda, holistic health, creative industries and tourism.
