Mallikarjun Kharge Takes Oath as Rajya Sabha Member Following Re-Election

New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge officially took his oath of office on Monday as a member of the Rajya Sabha, marking the beginning of his new term in the Upper House of Parliament representing Karnataka. According to a report by The Economic Times, his swearing-in follows a successful bid for re-election to the legislative body.

Unopposed Election to the Upper House

The parliamentary transition occurred smoothly earlier in the month. On June 11, election officials declared three candidates from the Congress party, including Kharge, alongside one nominee from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), elected unanimously to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka, as reported by The Economic Times.

Filling Vacant Parliamentary Seats

The recent electoral process was initiated to fill four specific seats that were set to become vacant. The official terms of the serving members—Iranna Kadadi and Narayana Koragappa representing the BJP, Mallikarjun Kharge representing the Congress, and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda representing the JD(S)—concluded on June 25. To maintain continuous representation for the state of Karnataka, Kharge had actively sought and successfully secured another term in the Upper House of Parliament.
