Students of Lady Shri Ram College for Women held a protest march in Delhi on Wednesday, days after a 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped near Kalkaji Temple, calling for stronger security measures for women in the area.
Students from other nearby women’s colleges under Delhi University reportedly joined the demonstration, voicing concerns about the safety of women and students both on campus and in the surrounding neighbourhood.
The march followed a day after LSR shifted its classes online in the wake of the alleged sexual assault on the teenager, which took place at Aastha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Mandir. The college principal confirmed on Wednesday that offline classes and the regular academic schedule would resume from Thursday.

Alongside the protest, the college administration has approached Delhi Police seeking heightened security in and around the campus. It has specifically requested the Amar Colony police station to step up patrolling in the lanes near the college, with particular focus on the area around the college’s rear gate and nearby parks.
The administration has asked for increased surveillance and patrolling at the rear entrance used by students, as well as in adjoining parks, citing ongoing concerns for student safety.
The alleged assault on the minor has triggered unease among students and local residents, prompting calls for a stronger police presence and better security infrastructure in the area. The LSR students’ protest was intended to draw attention to these concerns and push authorities toward ensuring safer conditions for women.
The incident at Aastha Kunj Park has also renewed focus on the safety of public spaces located near educational institutions across Delhi.
