Kolkata: The giant 70 foot statue of football legend Lionel Messi is gradually disappearing from Kolkata’s skyline as authorities have started dismantling the structure with the help of cranes.
The towering tribute, which drew attention from football fans and curious onlookers alike, had become a recognizable landmark since its installation. However, workers have now begun removing the statue section by section, with large cranes moving in to carry out the operation safely.
Images and videos from the site have quickly spread across social media, showing the massive structure being taken apart. The sight has sparked conversations among residents, many of whom had grown accustomed to seeing the giant Messi figure dominate the area.
Officials overseeing the work said the removal is being carried out in a planned manner to avoid any damage or safety concerns. While the statue’s future location remains unclear, the dismantling marks the end of a unique chapter for football fans in the city.
