Veteran Tamil Producer K Rajan, 85, Dies by Suicide in Chennai

In a tragic turn of events that has sent ripples of shock through the Tamil film industry, veteran producer K Rajan passed away at the age of 85 after allegedly dying by suicide. According to reports, the veteran jumped into the Adyar River from the Adyar Bridge in Chennai. Fire and rescue services recovered his body, which was then taken to a hospital for formalities. Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.

K Rajan was a well-known personality in Tamil cinema circles, recognized for his candid and often controversial speeches at industry events. He frequently appeared on YouTube channels and spoke with media outlets, highlighting various challenges confronting the film sector. His sudden demise has left colleagues and friends in the cinema fraternity grappling with grief and disbelief.

Rajan’s association with Tamil cinema dates back to the 1980s. He made his debut as a producer with the 1983 film *Brammacharigal*, starring Suresh, under his banner Ganesh Cine Arts. Over the years, he produced multiple films and also took on directing duties, notably helming *Unarchigal*, which featured actors Abbas and Kunal. Beyond production and direction, he played a significant role in the film trade ecosystem.

In 2000, K Rajan served as president of the Chennai Film Distributors Association. His son, Prabhukanth, followed in his footsteps by entering the industry as an actor.
