Jaipur: Mobile internet services were temporarily suspended in several parts of Rajasthan’s Jaipur as authorities prepared to carry out an anti-encroachment operation in the city. According to reports, the restrictions were imposed as a precautionary measure to maintain public order and prevent the spread of rumours on social media.
Reason For Internet Shut Down Today-
The Divisonal Commissioner ordered the suspension of mobile internet and social media services across most police stations areas of Jaipur North and Jaipur East from midnight on June 7 to midnight on June 8. The motive is to stop spreading fake news
How Many Police Personnel Deployed ?
Over 3,000 police personnel have been deployed across the city. 12 companies of the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) have made available to the JDA on orders from the Director General (Law and Order). Additional forces have been called in from the Jaipur, Kota and Bharatpur ranges, with roughly 1,000 additional commissionerate personnel stationed at sensitive locations. The walled city and other communally sensitive areas are on high alert, with police and RAC personnel in active deployment.
Which Structures Are To Be Removed And Why?
Five religious structures that includes a mosque, two temples, a satsang hall and a shrine fall within the 80-foot road boundary as per the revenue department. Although the current road measures about 25-30 feet in width, the JDA says these structures have blocked the widening project for years.
After 134 other enchroahcments were cleared on May 22, the parties who occupy these religious sites were given deadline to self-demolish the structures but as they haven’t abided by the notification now the demolition process took place.
Any Traffic Restrictions Today ?
As such no traffic movemnets have been announced by the Traffic divison, but residents might expect certain security presence and mobility restrictions throughout the day. Commuters are advised to use alternate routes so as to avoid any problem near the demolition drive.
